A Not-Date and Associated Rambles

Hello ladies,

So a few months ago I was driving a bunch of my band people to and from Toronto and on the way home the car was so incredibly quiet that I was trying to start any sort of conversation. I’d remembered from the night before that the guy in my passenger seat was a Bond fan so, with the help of my fantastic playlist (“You Know My Name” by Chris Cornell played at the opportune moment), I struck up a conversation about that and any awesome cars that we passed (they did not pass us, I am too fast).

As a part of this conversation I said that I really didn’t feel like doing any work and that I might just sit on my couch and watch Bond movies all day. After a bit of a laugh he said that sounded like a great idea and that he actually had all the films on his laptop. Cool beans. Well done, sir.

After this it was pleasant small talk for the rest of the way home, and quite a few laughs as well, but after I’d dropped everyone else off and he was about to wander off as well he stopped and said “So, James Bond Sunday. Are we going to do this?” All of my past hour of conversation was like “Oh, excellent! Someone to watch cool action-y movies with me! Rejoice!” but there was another little part going “HIGH ALERT! DATE! DATE! POSSIBLE DATE!” This little part may be a large part responsible for my social awkwardness. I gave myself a little shake out of it and said sure, as long as we both managed to get our homework shit together in time (my university is very nerdy, homework is legitimately a thing all the time).

That weekend James Bond day didn’t work out but it’s been kind of a thing ever since. When I hosted the band’s End of Term party, our theme was semi-formal and this guy showed up wearing a lovely dress shirt and suit vest (an article of clothing I have a particular weakness for) and again, we had some great chats about the future, graduating, all sorts of nerdy things and James Bond.

Well here we are. Now this thing is finally going to happen. We’d managed to find a night that worked for both of us (through much difficulty) and settled on tonight (Wednesday). Yay scheduling! Here’s the thing (the reason I’m writing this instead of being asleep as I obviously need to be), when I got out of my exam tonight he’d messaged me on Facebook to ask when he should come over. I replied that I had no idea and asked when he wanted to show up. His answer “I’ve got nothing to do all day. Do you want to do dinner and then movies?”

Um, yes, but ugh… You, sir, are making it very hard for me to keep telling myself we’re just friends and this is definitely not a date. *is confuzzled* It’s not a date, right? How do date? What?

Help!

Much love,

Dina

  1. all those who hope it's a date? :P
(you'll be fine, you'll enjoy the movies and the company whether or not it's a date and that's the important part!)

  3. Just cause you don't see it as a date, does not mean he sees it the same way.Just make sure your both on the same page.
