Handshakes with a side of Harry Potter

Hey ladies!

I realize I haven’t been on here in a while and that I’d better get my ass in gear and do something about it. That being said I have no plan for this so it’s just going to roll with my random thought. I hope you enjoy rolling.

I had such high homework ambitions for this weekend. I really did. Today I have done next to nothing however. I would blame Harry Potter but I like the entire fandom too much to put any real negative blame there. I’m just a master procrastinator.

Speaking of Harry Potter, I met this dude named Aiden there. He knew one of the girls I was talking to and preceded to introduced himself and offer a hand shake, ya know, like people do… AND IT SUCKED!

I really dislike people who give wimpy handshakes! Ugh! I don’t know if this is just a “me” thing or what but if someone gives me a wimpy handshake I automatically lose a tiny bit of respect. This guy was interesting in a whole slightly rugged but still super smart way which is all really appealing but then WIMPY HANDSHAKE! The guy had a piercing and tattoos for crying out loud! Surely he knows how to grip something!

Heh heh, grip something… :P

I think it might be a bit of a kink for me and maybe that’s why it bothers me. A good handshake will do the same kind of work as a soccer bum strutting in tight designer jeans if it’s done right and I’m absolutely frustrated when it backfires.

Now my thoughts are completely off on to soccer bums and cute designer jeans…

The other frustrating part about this whole handshake business is that half the time I want to ask “Is that really how you give a handshake? Like, seriously? You know you’re doing it wrong, don’t you?” but I always hold myself back. For some reason I have this impression that insulting someone’s handshake, especially a guy’s handshake, might be really offensive so I hold all my extremely sarcastic questions in and try to ignore the disappointment that coils in my stomach. I also feel like offering to teach them how would be even more offensive.

Thoughts? Is this just me? Do you even know what I’m talking about? I feel like I haven’t explained this properly enough and you’re just going to think it’s weird. It probably is weird.

One more attempt to explain: if I ever had the good fortune to meet Tom Felton, Oliva Wilde, or Zack Efron and they have me the handshake I received last night… I would throw out my posters and only speak highly of characters as they did not relate to the actors who play them.

It is weird. I will admit it but hey, I finally posted! Exciting!

Love you ladies,

Dina

  1. Haha!! I think you have mentioned the handshake thing to me before, I seem to remember it.

I can't confirm if it is just a you thing or not, because I can't remember the last time I shock someone's hand when I was meeting them in a social context, as in not for an interview.

So I have never really formulated an opinion on the importance of a good handshake. I don't even know if my own is up to snuff... Though I do recall that we got training for good handshaking skills in co-op all those years ago Michele!

  3. Really Valerie? No handshakes in first year when you're meeting everyone? Maybe it's a thing at my school then because in the first few months of my first year I shook everyone's hand. Weird...

I'm glad you understand Dawn! I put Zefron on there to make the point. No one can deny his utter deliciousness (as long as he doesn't give the wet fish handshake). :P

And no, I do not recall hand shaking, though I do try and repress memories of o-week...
